Sunshine Beach State High School has recently launched their “Physics of Drones” program. The exciting new course of study allows students to study the physics, applications and the ethical use of drones. The use of unmanned aircraft, quadcopters and robots is expanding across all industries, including construction, surveying, farming and even in emergency services. The “Physics of Drones” course has allowed Sunshine Beach High's Year 10 Physics students to look into the current and future applications, preparing them to live and work with drones in the future.
The Science Department has invested in in a range of drones and simulator programs to allow student the opportunity to gain firsthand experience flying, controlling and maintaining the quadcopters. The program has been a favourite among many students, who have loved flying the drones while simultaneously gaining an understanding of the science behind their flight and how each type of drone could be applied across a range of industries.
The program is a part of the Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) initiative, which puts a focus on developing high order skills in students, which will prepare them to work in innovative and growing industries in the future.
