The Learning Centre

The Learning Centre at Sunshine Beach High School caters for the diverse learning needs of students within a whole school approach. Students with a verified disability have an array of learning options and pathways that provide an opportunity to engage in success based learning. Student planning and growth is considered in a holistic framework and all students are empowered to realise their full potential.

The whole school approach provides a continuum of support from supported regular mainstream classes with differentiation, progressing through to focussed teaching groups and to intensive programs with an individualised curriculum tailored to meet the individual’s needs and to ensure positive learning outcomes.

All students with special needs are valued, integral members of the school community and supported with a diverse range of curriculum and program options by a caring and qualified staff.

Core values of the SBSHS Learning Centre are:

• mutual respect

• self-discipline &  Responsibility

• teamwork

• caring &  empathy

• “personal best” philosophy

Currently the Learning Centre is coded by Education Queensland as catering for students verified with Intellectual Disability and Autistic Spectrum Syndrome (ASD).

With resourcing provided by Education Queensland the Learning Centre’s vision is to create a best practice model for students with disabilities and meet the needs of a diverse range of learners.
