For musical students entering Year 7 in 2017, Sunshine Beach State High School offers the opportunity to be part of an extension music class. This class is designed to encourage the pursuit of excellence in music. Students in this class study music throughout Years 7 and 8 (as opposed to one term) and undertake more advanced performing and classroom music activities. Students are also eligible for membership in school ensembles, depending on instrument (Concert Band, Stage Band, String Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble and/or Vocal Group). Students in the Music Excellence class stay together as a group for all of Year 7, 8 and 9, as long as they remain part of the Instrumental Music Program.
Who should enrol:
students who are involved in primary music instrumental programs (and play a woodwind, brass, percussion or orchestral stringed instrument), and/or
students who have private music lessons, and/or
students who are involved in choral programs.

Second round applications need to be submitted by the end of Term 3. Auditions are regularly held upon request.
Students participate in a short audition/ interview, performing one piece (on their instrument or singing).
NOTE: Sunshine Beach SHS has an Enrolment Management Plan. Students from outside the enrolment catchment area are still eligible to enrol as part of the Music Excellence program, however they must remain part of the music program to retain their enrolment eligibility.
