Guidance Officer

Student, School Community Welfare and Careers

The role of a Guidance Officer includes:

  • Internal monitoring of student wellbeing including counselling practices and outcomes
  • Case manage 'at risk' students
  • Work Rehabilitation Officer
  • Support international and independent students
  • Advocate and support international students with complex education, health and welfare issues
  • Manage 'students in care' and formulation of Education Adjustment Programs (EAP)
  • Psycho-education assessment
  • Guidance intervention for SLC students
  • Liaise with external support organisations who support students e.g. United Synergies, Child and Youth Mental Health (CYMHS), Headspace
  • Collection of Guidance Officer files for new enrolments
  • Manage referrals from Heads of Year, Deputy Principal, Principal, parents
  • Career options and advice regarding options and pathways
  • Subject selection and changes to a studen/ts course of study
  • Queensland Tertiary Admission Centre, QTAC
  • University Showcase.
