Outdoor Education is an important part of the Junior Secondary experience at our school. We believe that learning extends beyond the classroom and that students benefit from opportunities to challenge themselves, build relationships and develop confidence in new environments.
All students in Years 7 and 8 participate in our Outdoor Education program as part of their educational program. Where possible, students are accompanied by their core teachers, providing valuable opportunities to strengthen relationships and see students develop in different settings.
Our Outdoor Education program encourages students to develop three key areas:
Community – working together, supporting others and making a positive contribution to the group.
Communication – listening, sharing ideas, solving problems and communicating effectively in a range of situations.
Self-sufficiency – developing independence, resilience, responsibility and confidence when faced with new challenges.
Year 7
During Term 1, Year 7 students participate in a one-day Outdoor Education experience on site.
The day provides students with an opportunity to build new friendships, strengthen their sense of belonging and develop positive relationships with their peers and teachers. Students take part in a range of engaging activities and team challenges, including our inflatable obstacle racecourse.
Through these experiences, students are encouraged to work together, communicate, problem-solve and support one another. The day provides a fun and challenging introduction to Outdoor Education while helping students recognise their own strengths and those of others.
Year 8
During Term 2, Year 8 students take their Outdoor Education experience to the next level with a 2-night, 3-day camp at Maranatha Recreation Centre in Yandina.
The Year 8 experience provides students with greater opportunities to develop independence, resilience and self-sufficiency. Living and working together over several days encourages students to take responsibility for themselves, contribute to the group and embrace new challenges.
With the support of experienced outdoor education staff and their teachers, students participate in a range of outdoor and team-based activities designed to build confidence, communication, problem-solving and collaboration skills.
The Year 8 camp is an opportunity for students to strengthen friendships, challenge themselves and discover what they are capable of while developing the skills and confidence to become increasingly independent young people.
Outdoor Education is about more than the activities — it is about building confidence, connection and the capacity to work together.
