Vocational Education & Training - You’ll need a USI

Every year, many Australians build and sharpen their skills by undertaking nationally recognised training.  Getting the right skills when and where industry needs them is a key building block to Australia’s future prosperity. The Unique Student Identifier (USI) will build a structure that supports targeted training for the needs of industry.

For Australian industry and the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector, the USI information means:

  • less time in waiting for job applicants to confirm their nationally recognised training qualifications

  • evidence-based smarter regulation for the reduction of poor quality training

  • sharing of training information will make it easier for training providers and for Australian businesses

  • greater efficiency in managing interactions with governments and regulators, simplifying government VET program eligibility and entitlement processing.

The Department of Industry and Science have created a YouTube Video explaining USI's for students.
