It is the school’s aim that all students from Year 7 to 8 have an opportunity to participate in the Outdoor Education program. Attendance is compulsory and is regarded as part of your student’s educational program. Where possible, your child’s core teachers will attend the day/s. This provides an opportunity for the teachers to see first-hand how your child is settling into secondary school, developing life skills and building positive working relationships. The outdoor education experience is designed to enable personal growth based on a lifestyle that promotes community effort. By working as part of a community, individual strengths and gifts are brought to the forefront allowing each person to build confidence and self-esteem while at the same time developing valuable life skills. The program focuses on three key elements:
Community - appreciating the importance of working together
Communication - learning to communicate in a variety of situations and circumstances
Self-sufficiency – developing a sense of confidence, independence and responsibility
Year 7
Year 7 students spend one day during Term 1 on site participating in activities ranging from climbing wall to team challenges. This allows for new friendships to be built and for individuals to recognise the strengths and gifts of others. Students find this experience builds confidence and self-esteem.
Year 8
During Term 2, students have the opportunity to stay 2N/3D at Total Adventures Camp at Noosa North Shore. This provides a progressive opportunity for students to display great self-sufficiencies as they are required to live and work together for this short stay. Accommodation and catering are provided by Total Adventures. With instruction from their expert staff, students and teachers build on the school’s sense of community and focus on communication skills in a variety of circumstances.
